When one deducts from the sum of these two figures, $1286.00 the parish's weekly financial obligation to the Diocese, i.e. assessments, $358.85 plus the weekly premiums for property and liability insurance, $149.20, the sum of which is $508.05, plus its weekly obligation to All Saints School, $987.21, the sum total of which is $1,495.26, one sees that ($209.26) of this collection is available for operating the parish. This is a deficit!

BAD LADIES DRIVEN OUT OF SAINT JOSEPH RECTORY!

On Sunday night, 29 October, prior to turning in for the night, I went to my computer on the 3rd floor of the Rectory in order to check my email. (I had not been at the computer since the previous Friday morning.) To my utter shock, embarrassment, dismay and chagrin, I found that my computer had been invaded by some very, very bad and utterly persistent ladies. With mouse and index finger, I did my best to chase these bad ladies away, but they kept coming back.
Allow me to say the following lest anyone suspect otherwise: Never at any time in my life did I ever invite any bad ladies into the rectory, nor into any house or room that I have ever occupied. I have a salutary fear of God, together with a pretty good sense of who I am and what I am about.
Nonetheless, there they were, those shameless ladies, bold as brass, popping up all over the monitor! Then came other "adware" pop-ups, advising me to download certain computer programs that would "hide" the "adult sites" I had "visited" so as not to "compromise" either my "marriage" or my "career". Now I was really angry! I realized that the lowlife dirtballs who peddle computer porn supplement their income by trying to tap into the shame their stinking product engenders.
Fortunately, I had enough presence of mind not to download any of these pseudo-helpful computer programs. It was obvious to me that I was being scammed by some hacker somewhere, who had succeeded in getting into my computer and, no doubt, into the computers of quite a few others as well.
I notified a friend of mine who knows a lot about computers. He came over on Wednesday to try to get rid of these bad ladies. [From Monday to Wednesday, I had been involved in chasing them. They would go away for a while and then come back when I returned to the computer.]
My friend installed Norton, but Norton didn't do the job - not even Norton's premium product. The bad ladies were still showing up on Thursday. On Thursday evening, my friend came back and installed Spyware Doctor. That did the trick! No bad ladies on the scene now. They've hit the road and good riddance! [Let's hear it for Spyware Doctor!]
Here are a few practical points I would like to make on the basis of this nasty but educational experience:
#1 - Make certain that your computer is protected with reliable safeguards against porn invasion. As mentioned above, I recommend Spyware Doctor. [No, I don't get a commission on it!]
#2 - Be aware that the porn merchants are aggressive. They don't wait to be invited. They break in like burglars.
#3 - Wives! Don't be too quick to presume that your husband has been visiting a porn site if you see some hint of porn on the monitor. It is entirely possible that his computer has been invaded, just as mine was. Talk to him about it, but don't be accusatory.

Lisa was, until recently, a member of St. Joseph Parish.
Now that she is married, her husband and she will be joining the parish in the area where they will be taking up residence, which - for at least the first couple of years - will be in the vicinity of Phoneix (AZ).
The Nuptial Mass and the exchange of vows, celebrated according to the Tridentine Missal of 1962, took place on Saturday, 28 October, in St. Boniface (Holy Wisdom) Church in Pittsburgh. The celebrant was Father Kenneth E. Myers, chaplain of the Pittsburgh Latin Mass Community. Father Connolly assisted at the Mass and gave the homily.
We invoke God's blessings on the newly married couple and we pray that they will have the strength and the spirit of self-sacrifice that are required in order to live out the vows of their marriage.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher!

Personal note: As a teenager, Lisa was a "weekend office girl" at St. Joseph Rectory.
