| THE SANCTUARY LAMP at St. Joseph Church is offered, during the week of 11 - 17 February, in loving memory of Stephen Chalinsky, at the request of his family. |
|
THE LOURDES GROTTO CANDLE is offered, during the week of 11 - 17 February,
for the happy repose of the soul of VLHS, at the request of a
friend. Correction There was a Mass on 6 February 2007 for the late Albert J. Laplaca. In the bulletin, it was noted that the Mass marked the 60th anniversary of his wedding. This was incorrect. It marked the 70th anniversary of his wedding. In other words, Albert and Julia were married on 6 Feb 1937, not 6 Feb 1947. This is an important correction. It might not seem all that important to you. However, Julia thinks it is important. And we can understand why she thinks so! We apologize for the misprint. |

BARBRA STREISAND has contributed money to the campaigns of three persons who have announced that they will seek the office of President of the United States in 2008. These three persons are: Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) (Former Senator) John Edwards (D-NC) My reason for including this news item in our bulletin is as follows: I sometimes look to Barbra Streisand for guidance in deciding which candidates I will or will not support. Perhaps you do the same. |

tribunals that operate in Rome. |

COMMENT #1 - Once a man takes a wife, his duty to his wife takes precedence over his duty to his mother. #2 - Love for one's wife is a higher calling than love for one's mother. #3 - Love for one's mother must be subsumed into the bigger picture, viz. love for one's wife. #4 - A man ought not take a wife unless and until he accepts this. (a) leaves his father and mother (b) clings to his wife (c) and the two become one flesh." [cf. Gen 2,24; Mt 19,5; Eph 5,31] Please don't cling to one another and please don't become one flesh unless and until you leave your father and mother! |

A REQUEST FOR PRAYERS My son, Chad, has been shot in Fallujah. I want to get everyone to pray for him. Today, Sunday, I got a call from the Army that Chad has been shot in the head. I am asking for all your prayers. He was in a Humvee going through Fallujah, and a gang of militia fighters fired on the Humvee and hit Chad in the head. The driver got him out of the city and took him to Baghdad. At first he was listed in terminal condition, but now has been upgraded to stable / critical. His Dad and I are on standby to fly to Washington, then on to Germany as soon as the military calls us to go. They are trying to stabilize him enough to fly him to Germany, and at that time we will leave. Please pray that my son will not have brain damage and that he will be restored and healed by the blood of Jesus, by the grace of God. I ask for you to pass this prayer request on, so there will be many prayer warriors praying for him. Thank you so much and will try to keep you updated on his condition. God Bless, Vicky Field Granbury, Texas |
|
COMMENT Mrs. Field is a Catholic. She sent this email to members of her Cursillo prayer group. It came to me from my brother-in-law who is active in Cursillo. It touched my heart and jolted me out of my tendency towards self-centeredness. If you have the same tendency, perhaps it will jolt you as well. Let us pray for Chad and for all who suffer from the war. |

A PRAYER FOR VICKIE LYNN -
aka ANNA NICOLE Dear Holy Mother of God: A woman died suddenly this past week. Her name - at least the name by which she was best known in this valley of tears - is Anna Nicole. You know her as Vickie Lynn. I want to put in a good word for her. I want to ask you to pray for her to your Son, Jesus. Ask Him to have mercy on her. Ask Him to give her whatever good break He can possibly give her. Even if He has to bend the rules a little bit, ask Him please to take her to Himself. One reason why I am "praying in public" for her is this: I think that relatively few persons who knew her personally or who (like me) have only heard about her are praying for her. I am hoping that, by "praying in public" for her, I might influence someone else to pray for her. To most people, she is unreal, a cartoon character, an object of lust or ridicule or scorn or some of each. To Jesus and to you, she is a poor, banished daughter of Eve. Quite frankly, dear Mother, Vickie Lynn was not any paragon of womanly virtue. I don't think you need me to spell it out for you. You get the picture. I won't elaborate. But, let me tell you a few things about her background that help me to understand what she was up against. Anna Nicole Smith's name at birth was Vickie Lynn Hogan. When she was born (28 Nov 67), her father, Donald Hogan, was twenty and her mother, Virgie Mae Tabers Hogan, was sixteen. Donald had a roving eye. He didn't hang around very long. He left his wife and baby before Vickie Lynn was two years old. Subsequently, Virgie Mae married four more times. She is now on her fifth husband. So, you see, holy Mother, there was not a whole lot of stability in Vickie Lynn's home life. For that alone, I think she deserves some special consideration. Vickie Lynn failed her freshman year in high school and dropped out of school. Then she got a job as a waitress at Jim's Krispy Fried Chicken. When she was 17, she got pregnant by a 16-year-old boy named Billy Smith. God bless her, she married Billy! Give her some credit for that! Not long after she had given birth to a son (Danny Smith), Billy left her. So, she took her baby and moved to the big city to get a job at Wal-Mart. Some men who saw her only as a sex object offered her a job as an exotic dancer at a night club in Houston. That was what got her started on the downward spiral. I'm referring to the pornographic poses and the whole sordid lifestyle we hear about. Holy Mother, I invoke your pity for her and your Son's mercy for her. If there is any way that you can find whereby she can be brought into the light perpetual, please find it. May the Blood of Jesus Christ wash away the sins of our sister, Vickie Lynn. May she kneel at the feet of the Savior and bathe His feet with her tears. Remember, most compassionate Virgin Mary, that never was it known Amen. |

WE ALL HAVE OUR CROSSES! The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter-for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God. Humani Generis From the point of view of
the gentleman referred to above, this probably makes Pius XII
an apostate, a heretic, a schismatic, an ex-priest, etc. |
