The Right Reverend DANIEL W. HERZOG, the recently retired Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany (NY) and The Right Reverend DAVID J. BENA, the recently retired Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany (NY) have announced that they are
joining the Catholic Church, i.e. are entering into full communion
with the Catholic Church. "Simon, Simon, Satan
greatly desires to have you that he might sift you, but I have
prayed for thee, that thy faith may not falter!"
We must never succumb to the temptation of thinking that "one religion is as good as another". Such thinking and saying may win points for a person in this "go along to get along" world, but not in the world of honest men and women. Such thinking and saying are patently absurd to any person who has the capacity for fundamental logic. Dare to be different! Dare to be truthful! |

Keep them, for they are Thine - Thy priests, whose lives burn out before Thy consecrated shrine. though from the world apart; when earthly pleasures tempt, allure - shelter them in Thy Heart. in hours of loneliness and pain, when all their life of sacrifice for souls seems but in vain. they have no one but Thee; yet they have only human hearts, with human frailty. that daily they caress; their every thought and word and deed, deign, dearest Lord, to bless. |

TRUE STORY I was celebrating Mass at a local nursing home on Friday (1 June). At Communion time, Mr. Barone (my efficient and highly paid associate) was holding the paten for me while the two of us walked nimbly between the wheelchairs and geriatric chairs in order to give Holy Communion to the folks in attendance. We came to one woman who seemed reluctant (or ambiguous) about receiving. She said something, but I didn't quite catch it. Mr. Barone said something reassuring to her, at which point I gave her Holy Communion and moved on. Later, I asked Mr. Barone what the lady said. He told me that she said that she didn't think she could receive Communion because she didn't have any money! Oh my! What a thought! May God bless the lady! |
| Just for the record: Although yours truly has his share of faults and failings, simony is not one of them, for which we can all give thanks to the Lord! |
| WE ANTICIPATE that - barring some unforeseen circumstances - Fr. Chris Butera will celebrate the 10:45 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church on Sunday, 10 June. It is also likely that he will celebrate the 12:05 p.m. Mass on Tuesday, 5 June. He is due to report for his assignment on Tuesday, 12 June. He will be serving as assistant pastor at St. Thomas More Parish, Allentown. |

THANK YOU! Phyllis C. Kevy kindly paid for the bus that transported the folks to and from the Cathedral in Allentown on Saturday (2 June) for Chris Butera's ordination. She did so in loving memory of her sister, Roni J. Kevy. Thank you, dear Miss Roni! |
| LET US PRAY FOR A SUCCESSFUL REVOLUTION IN VENEZUELA! We should make no mistake about it. El Presidente Hugo Chavez is one very bad hombre. He is a threat to all of Latin America and to the USA. He needs to go to jail for a very long time (preferably) or, at least, into permanent exile. He is an enemy to human dignity and will soon show himself to be an enemy to the Catholic Church. May God, Who is an expert in pulling down various mighties from their thrones, see fit to include Hugo on His list of mighties who need pulling down. We do not neglect to pray for the salvation of Hugo's soul, but, first of all, he needs to be pulled down. That will help his salvation. |
