CHINESE AUCTION St. Vincent dePaul Parish will be holding its annual Chinese Auction on Sunday, 22 February, in the Parish Hall. Doors open at 12:00 noon. Parishioners (and friends of the parish) are asked to purchase a $15.00 ticket packet and to donate three small prizes. If there are any parishioners who have any questions, please call Nancy Kennedy at 570-276-6411. Parishioners who would like to volunteer to participate in the auction should also call Nancy or else you can call the Rectory. A member of the Holy Rosary Society will contact you. Donations of baked goods will be gratefully accepted. Everyone is invited to participate in the Auction and to join in on the fun! |
| WHY DIDNT THE BLESSED MOTHER jump into her car in order to drive the long distance from Nazareth to Ain Karim so that she could visit her cousin Elizabeth? Well, if you would study your Bible, you would know the answer: Mary no longer had a car to drive. She had just given her Fiat to Gabriel! |

PARENTS
who would like their children to receive First Holy Communion
on 24 May 2009 should call Fr. Connolly to let him know. Otherwise,
he does not know. And, if he does not know, he does not know!
Notice that it is the childrens PARENTS who should call
not the childrens grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings,
cousins, neighbors, best friends parents, CCD teachers
or parole officers. Please make that call NOW. The pastors name is Connolly. His phone number is in the bulletin (page one). He is one heck of a nice guy. You will love him to pieces! So, call him! Tell him you want your kid to receive First Holy Communion and be prepared to answer the question, Does your child go to Mass every Sunday? |

THANK YOU! We are grateful to the local council of the Knights of Columbus for their generous donation of two hundred dollars ($200.00) towards the expense of chartering the bus for the March for Life in Washington DC this past Thursday (22 Jan). This donation made it possible for several persons to go who could not otherwise have afforded to go. God bless you, gentlemen! |
| WHAT KIND OF CAR DID JESUS DRIVE? If you know your Bible, you know that He owned a Honda, but didnt want it to be generally known. How do we know this from the Bible? Well, if you recall, Jesus once said, I do not speak of My own Accord. |

| AND THE KING WILL SAY TO THOSE ON HIS RIGHT: I WAS IN MY MOTHERS WOMB AND YOU DEFENDED MY RIGHT TO LIFE! AND THESE WILL SAY TO HIM, LORD, WHEN DID WE SEE YOU IN YOUR MOTHERS WOMB AND DEFEND YOUR RIGHT TO LIFE? AND THE KING WILL ANSWER THEM, WHATEVER YOU DID TO THE LEAST OF MY BROTHERS, YOU DID TO ME. |

In the presence of your father and your mother,
be ashamed about committing fornication. These are the things you should rightly avoid as shameful, if you want people to respect you. Cf. Sirach 41, 15-24. In an attempt to make these verses more intelligible to persons who might not be patient with more formal language, I have attempted a loose (but, I hope, reliable) rendering of the meaning of these verses. I highly recommend that you pick up a Bible and just start reading from the Wisdom Literature [which includes Sirach, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Wisdom]. Youll find some fascinating (and highly relevant) material therein. (EBC) |
